Haryana’s numerous districts are integral parts of the National Capital Region (NCR), encompassing the national capital of Delhi from three sides. Therefore, the districts of Haryana—Gurgaon in particular—focus on seamless connectivity and the development of road and rail infrastructure for the NCR Planning Board. A proposed 121.742 km semi high-speed rail line is set to connect Harsana Kalan (Sonipat) and Asaoti (Palwal) in Haryana, passing through 17 stations along the Kundli – Manesar – Palwal (KMP) / Western Peripheral Expressway—largely covering the Gurgaon district. Passenger trains operating on this new broad gauge line will provide connectivity via Sohna, Manesar, and Kharkoda, while freight trains will link major logistic hubs, adopting the Dedicated Freight Corridor standard for freight movement.
It’s worth noting that road and rail infrastructure drive the economy, and Gurgaon is fortunate to have superb road infrastructure built by the state government and the Union, leading the city to become an economic hub in just a few decades. With the presence of Maruti, Flipkart, AIIMS, Global City, Jungle Safari, and other developments, Gurgaon has emerged as a world-class city. Remarkably, excellent road infrastructure plays a pivotal role in accelerating industrial activities. Currently, six major roads, highways, or expressways intersect this district, facilitating seamless transportation across the city—a fundamental aspect of its economic growth.
The introduction of the orbital rail corridor will further enhance connectivity, aiming to bypass Delhi and provide interchange connectivity with the Indian Railways’ main radial routes, specifically the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) at Pirthala (near Palwal), major logistic hubs, and the Delhi – SNB RRTS Line at Panchgaon. Five stations—Dhulavat, Chandla Dungarwas, Panchgaon, Manesar, and New Patli—will be a boon to Gurgaon. A noteworthy aspect of this project is that the orbital corridor will also facilitate the operation of Shatabdi trains from Gurugram to Chandigarh, bypassing Delhi—a significant benefit for daily passengers. Additionally, the corridor will be connected to the Maruti Plant in Manesar through a railway line.
Beyond the orbital corridor, a Regional Rapid Rail System is being constructed via Gurgaon, and a project to extend the Metro line from Millennium City Metro station (formerly Huda City Centre station) to Old Gurugram is also at an advanced stage.
